  • Using Spotfire to improve efficiency, decision making and reporting in SEPA

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is Scotland’s environmental regulator. Our main role is to protect and improve the environment, as well as research, learn and educate others about the key environmental issues facing Scotland. Data plays a major role in achieving these aims and fulfilling SEPA’s role, with SEPA collecting millions of rows of diverse data covering laboratory sampling, geographical information, hydrological data, external organisations data, licence information, and numerous calculated data for reporting purposes. Through better use of this data SEPA aims to increase efficiency, improve decision making, reporting and how we communicate with industry and the public.

To achieve our aims SEPA utilise the TIBCO Spotfire suite of software. This has been heavily employed as a means to improve data integrity, analyse and model data for better, evidence based decision making, and to improve how we report information internally and to our external stake holders. In this webinar we will show examples of all of these key goals through tools developed internally for use by SEPA employees, and also tools published on the internet for use by industry and the public.

Covered in the webinar are tools developed to tackle four key business areas for SEPA which are; data integrity, evidence based decision making, reporting and engaging with external stakeholders. The webinar will demonstrate how Spotfire tools are being used to perform simple everyday tasks, to complex modelling and analysis involving tools such as TERR and R, covering temporal and spatial dataset, in the four areas described.
