David Wooton, Ph.D.

Dr. David Wooton is an expert in the lubricant industry. He has a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he also completed a two year post-doctoral research project in analytical chemistry. He has over 30 years of experience as an analytical chemist, specializing in fuel and lubricant analyses. Over the years, Dr. Wooton has been involved in developing methods to analyze in-service fluids that are being used by testing labs all over the world. He is best known for his expertise in FTIR analyses of in-service fluids. He is currently the Co-Chairman of ASTM D02.96.3 Committee on in-service FTIR and ASTM D02.C01 Committee on Turbine Oil Monitoring, Problems and Systems. In 2001, Dr. Wooton founded his own company (Wooton-Consulting) and has helped many companies around the world. He is on the front line of lubricant root-cause analyses problem solving, preventative maintenance developments, and lubricant analyses method developments. He has a unique understanding of all areas of lubrication chemistry and the analyses of lubricants in-service. In recent years, Dr. Wooton has focused on the problems of varnish and is becoming one of the top experts in the area. Dr. David Wooton has given lectures all over the world, published over 60 articles and has been awarded 15 patents in chemistry and lubricants.
