Wei Li, Ph.D

Dr. Wei Li graduated with a B.S degree from University of Science and Technology in China in 1992. Following a brief graduate study in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, he attended Columbia University to study for his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry under Professor Nick Turro in 1994. After graduating, Dr. Li joined the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
His research interests are focused on two areas:
- NMR based bioanalytics, especially the use of high resolution magic angle spinning NMR to study trace metabolites, intact cells or bacteria, and chemically modified nanoparticles
- Medicinal chemistry, working on discovery of small molecule as potential drugs to treat malignant melanoma and possibly other solid tumors
